To those who think that Wanderlust is for the malcontent, we say this:
"We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us." - Anonymous
Traveling is in our nature. The urge for exploration is what makes us human. Some say that a need to venture off on a holiday stems from discontentment and boredom, but that's not always the case. We have always been fascinated by travel and the means to do so.
"I haven't been everywhere, but it's on my list." - Susan Sontag
You may call it a bucket list or you may just call it a to-do list. Whatever the case, you most likely have an idea about where you want to travel to. Don't hesitate to cross somewhere off your list, can't find someone to tag along? Go solo.
“For my part, I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel’s sake. The great affair is to move.” – Robert Louis Stevenson
Sometimes, the destination is not what matters. Make the most of transportation options, use public transportation and immerse yourself within the culture. Chances are, you'll see more traveling through a country than flying over it. The long way around isn't always the worst choice or the most readily available. Make your adventure a proper adventure if you have the means to do so.
“No place is ever as bad as they tell you it’s going to be.” – Chuck Thompson
Don't make your choices based on someone else's opinion. Consider the phrase "one man's trash is another man's treasure," you may just find beauty in the most devastated landscape. Some travelers prefer to stick to the main roads and the busy cities for fear of getting lost or of meeting undesirable groups. Just keep in mind that the friendliest of people can be found in the strangest of places.
“Travel makes one modest. You see what a tiny place you occupy in the world.” – Gustave Flaubert
Those out there who are unable to travel, who are held back by conditions out of their control, are the ones who seem to want to explore most. Yes, they do want to escape their situations, but they also want to experience the sense of wonder they have only read and heard about. A second hand experience is not an experience.
"You don't have to be rich to travel well." - Eugene Fodor
